The Gathering Storm

Albert Mohler, in his book The Gathering Storm, describes a dark gloomy storm that is approaching America seeking to leave a path of chaos and destruction in its wake. This storm isn’t a literal storm, but rather a cultural storm that is seeking to overturn everything that has a hint of religious motivation. It doesn’t take us long to see that there is a movement in American culture looking to eradicate the Christian worldview. This storm is seeking to redefine marriage, sexuality, human life, and even the very idea of any moral standard. This storm calls itself the LGBTQ movement.

For the last few years this movement has cast its ugly shadow over all things demanding that everyone with a different viewpoint than them be uprooted and put to shame. Anyone that says same sex marriage is wrong, or says that abortion is wrong, or says that transgenderism is wrong is labeled as insensitive or a bigot or out of touch with reality or hateful. Because of this Christians all over the world are bending to the winds of this cultural storm. Christians are welcoming the LGBTQ movement with open arms so that they can be culturally appropriate.

Despite what the engines of this storm demand, Christians do not serve this culture, but rather we serve the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings, Jesus the Christ. We must stand firm on the rock of scripture as the storm makes its way into this nation. Christians must be a beacon of light, and a beacon of truth, and a beacon of hope to a confused culture trying navigate this deadly storm. If the Lord’s church is going to stay faithful in the face of the demands of the LGBTQ movement, we must cling to the truthfulness of God’s word. We must stay true to the one who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light. We must hold fast the anchor that keeps us grounded through the storm, that is our Lord Jesus Christ.
